About IV Therapy

What is IV therapy?

IV hydration delivers essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the GI tract. This allows for near-complete absorption of nutrients — far higher than what oral supplements can achieve.

IV therapy has been used in clinical settings since the early 1900s. Our outpatient wellness infusions are designed to support hydration, energy, recovery, and overall well-being.

How does IV therapy work?

A licensed and registered nurse inserts a small plastic catheter into a vein in your arm. A customized mixture of electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals is then delivered directly into your bloodstream for fast, effective absorption.

Because the nutrients bypass the digestive system, your body can absorb significantly higher concentrations than it could through food or oral supplements alone.

How long does a treatment take?

Most IV infusions take approximately 45–60 minutes to complete. Vitamin injections (B12, LipoMino, Glutathione, etc.) are much faster — typically 5–10 minutes.

We recommend staying comfortable and hydrated during your session. Our nurses will be with you throughout the entire infusion.

Does IV therapy hurt?

Our IVs are inserted by trained, licensed nurses with extensive IV experience. The vast majority of clients find the procedure to be painless. Some clients compare the initial insertion to a slight, brief pinch — similar to a standard blood draw.

If you feel any discomfort during your infusion, let your nurse know immediately and they will make adjustments.

Where can I get IV therapy?

We come to you. Our mobile service travels throughout Southwest Florida — from Punta Gorda to Naples, including Fort Myers, Estero, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, and surrounding areas. A travel fee of $25–$75 may apply for areas outside central Lee County.

We also offer an in-office location inside Apex Physical Therapy at 7990 Summerlin Lakes Dr., Suite 100, Fort Myers, FL. In-office appointments are available at exclusive office pricing.

Additionally, we partner with local spas, gyms, and pop-up wellness events across SWFL.

Safety & Eligibility

Who can receive IV therapy?

We provide services to individuals who meet our health assessment screening criteria. Clients must be at least 16 years of age.

Prior to your first appointment, you will complete a health screening questionnaire to help our medical team determine whether IV therapy is appropriate for you. Some conditions may make certain treatments unsuitable — your safety is always our first priority.

ℹ️ Clients aged 16–17 must have written parental or legal guardian consent prior to receiving any treatment.
Is IV therapy safe?

When administered by licensed healthcare professionals under physician supervision, IV therapy is generally considered safe for eligible candidates. All of our treatments are reviewed and approved by a Board Certified Medical Doctor, and every infusion is administered by a licensed Registered Nurse.

As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects. These are disclosed prior to your treatment and reviewed during your health screening. We never administer IV therapy to individuals for whom it would be deemed medically unsafe.

ℹ️ These services have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA for the treatment or prevention of any disease. IV therapy is a wellness service, not a substitute for medical care.
What are the possible risks or side effects?

IV therapy is well-tolerated by most clients, but potential risks and side effects may include:

  • Bruising, redness, or soreness at the insertion site
  • Temporary feeling of coldness or flushing during infusion
  • Mild fatigue or "detox" feeling after treatment (typically resolves within 24 hours)
  • Rare: vein irritation (phlebitis), lightheadedness, or allergic reaction
  • In very rare cases: infection at the IV site or fluid overload

Our nurses are trained to monitor you throughout the infusion and will stop treatment immediately if any concerning symptoms arise. All locations maintain a written emergency care plan.

If you experience any serious symptoms after your treatment, seek medical attention immediately or call 911.

What is the health screening questionnaire?

Before your first treatment, you will complete a health assessment screening questionnaire. This helps our medical director and nursing team determine which treatments are appropriate for your individual health profile.

The questionnaire covers your current health conditions, medications, allergies, and recent medical history. This is a required step — we do not administer IV therapy to clients who have not completed screening or for whom treatment would be medically unsafe.

This process is consistent with the requirements of Florida's HIPAA Compliant and best practices for IV hydration safety.

Do I need a doctor's referral to book an appointment?

No referral is required to book. However, all clients must complete a health screening prior to treatment, and our Medical Director reviews and approves all service protocols.

We also notify your designated physician of any treatment administered, as part of our commitment to coordinated, safe care. We encourage clients to inform their primary care provider that they are receiving IV therapy.

Can I receive IV therapy if I am pregnant?

Our Hydration Boost (IV fluids and electrolytes) is noted as safe for pregnant mothers. However, pregnancy introduces additional health considerations and not all of our treatments or add-ons are appropriate during pregnancy.

If you are pregnant, please disclose this during your health screening. Our medical team will advise which services are appropriate for your stage of pregnancy. We always recommend consulting with your OB-GYN before beginning any IV therapy during pregnancy.

What should I do if I have a reaction after my treatment?

After your infusion, you will receive discharge instructions outlining what to watch for. Most post-treatment experiences are positive — clients commonly report elevated energy, better mental clarity, and improved well-being.

Some clients may feel temporarily tired or unwell as the body processes nutrients and flushes toxins — this is a normal detoxification response and typically resolves within 24 hours.

If you experience any of the following, seek emergency care immediately:

  • Difficulty breathing or chest tightness
  • Severe swelling, hives, or signs of allergic reaction
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Fever, chills, or signs of infection at the IV site
  • Severe pain, numbness, or discoloration of the arm

For emergencies: Call 911 immediately. You may also reach us at (239) 719-2107.

How are your nurses supervised?

All services at SWFL Health and Hydration are carefully reviewed and approved by a Board Certified Medical Doctor who serves as our Medical Director. Our Registered Nurses administer every treatment under this physician oversight and in accordance with established protocols.

Our Medical Director has been notified to and is registered with the Florida Department of Health as required by Florida law.

What should I do to prepare for my appointment?

To get the most out of your IV therapy session:

  • Eat something before your appointment — do not arrive on an empty stomach
  • Stay hydrated — drink water in the hours before your infusion
  • Wear comfortable clothing with easy access to your arm
  • Complete your health screening questionnaire prior to your first visit
  • List any medications or supplements you are currently taking and share with your nurse
  • Let us know of any allergies, especially to vitamins, minerals, or medications
What should I do after my treatment?

After your infusion:

  1. Keep the band-aid in place for at least 1 hour
  2. Apply warm packs and elevate your arm if there is any bruising at the site
  3. Drink at least 1–2 16oz bottles of water after your infusion
  4. An Epsom salt bath can further support relaxation and detoxification

Most clients feel better right away. Some may experience temporary tiredness as the body processes nutrients — this is a normal response that typically resolves within 24 hours.
